Every screen decision trades open area against wear. Thicker wire lasts longer and blinds the deck sooner; a finer aperture gives a tighter cut and passes less tonnage. Polyurethane solves the wet and sticky cases where wire blinds within a shift, at the cost of open area. None of this is a fault — it is the choice, and it should be made against the feed rather than against the last invoice.
The exciter carries the whole dynamic load of the box on two bearings, at a stroke and speed the structure was designed around. A rebuild kit is often the right purchase rather than a complete unit — but only if the housing and the gear teeth are still within tolerance, which is why the unit is inspected before a kit is quoted.
