What a wheel-mounted plant is

A trailer or tyre-mounted plant carries the crusher, the feed hopper, the discharge conveyor and often the screen on a single semi-trailer chassis. It is towed to site behind a tractor unit, levelled on its own supports or jacks, and starts work without a concrete foundation.

That is the difference that matters commercially: a quarry that moves every two or three years can take the plant with it instead of writing off the civil works, and a contractor bidding on a fixed-term aggregate contract can mobilise in days rather than months.

How the stages combine

The three units are normally sold as a set: a jaw plant for the primary reduction, a cone or impact plant for the secondary, and a screening plant that closes the circuit and separates the saleable sizes. They can also be run singly — a jaw plant feeding a fixed secondary, or a screen working an existing stockpile.

Because the chassis is the constraint, the chamber size on a wheel-mounted unit is smaller than on a fixed plant of the same nominal tonnage. The published capacity of each model already accounts for that, and the feed opening tells you the largest lump the unit will accept.

Tyre or tracked

A wheel-mounted plant is the better choice where the machine travels on roads between sites and the ground inside each site is prepared. A tracked plant is the better choice where the machine has to walk across broken ground, follow the working face, or work without a tractor unit available.

Both are listed on this site with their capacities, weights and dimensions; where a project sits between the two, the deciding question is usually how far and how often the plant has to move.
