What stops a conveyor is rarely the belt

On a plant where the belt is inspected weekly, the stoppages come from two places: a seized roller that rubs a groove through the cover, and a splice that was never re-clamped. Both are cheap to prevent and expensive to discover at full load, because a torn belt takes the whole line down and usually arrives with a bent frame.

A hot roller bearing is the earliest signal. Check by hand after a shift, or with a thermal gun across the return run.
A belt that tracks to one side at the same point every revolution is usually a seized idler or a build-up on a pulley, not a misaligned frame.
Edge damage that repeats every few metres points at a structure or a skirt rubber, not at the belt itself.

Buying by the metre, not by the cheapest roll

Belt is quoted by carcass, number of plies and cover grade, and the cover is what you are actually paying for: an abrasion-resistant cover on crushed granite outlasts a general-purpose cover by a wide margin, and an oil-resistant cover is not optional where the feed carries residual fuel. A chevron profile is for inclines a smooth belt cannot hold — it does not add capacity on a flat run.
