The wear kit for a horizontal-shaft impactor: blow bars for the rotor, impact plates on the apron, liner plates on the casing and the grinding path at the discharge. Each one fails in a different way, which is why they are quoted by weight and by rotor position rather than by part name alone.
An impact crusher does its work by throwing rock rather than squeezing it, so every wear part fails by being hit rather than by sliding. That produces failure patterns a jaw or a cone never shows, and each one points at a different spare.
The blow bar erodes from the leading face and rounds off at the tip. The impact plate dents into a series of pits that eventually join into a step. The liner plate wears thin in the corners of the housing, where the material swirls. The grinding path polishes flat, and the product gradation opens up with it.
Manganese (Mn13, Mn18) work-hardens under impact and is the general-purpose choice: forgiving of tramp metal, weldable, and it holds up where the feed is mixed. White iron is far harder and far more brittle — longer life in clean, abrasive feed such as limestone, and a short life the first time a piece of steel goes through the chamber. Martensitic steel sits between them: tough enough for demolition feed with rebar, but it abrades faster than white iron in sand and gravel.
The grade is confirmed against the feed rather than chosen from a table: rock type, maximum feed size, and whether the plant sees reinforced concrete. A chamber that eats one excavator tooth a month should not be running white iron.
