Capacity and water consumption are quoted for a sand feed with a solids content the washer can handle; washing losses and the final moisture depend on the material.
The wheel sand washer, also called a bucket wheel washer, removes the clay, silt and dust that sit on the surface of manufactured or natural sand. During operation the impeller drives the sand and gravel against each other, which scours off the impurities covering the grains and breaks the water vapour layer around them, so the cleaning is done in a strong water flow rather than by chemicals.
The motor turns the impeller slowly after the V-belt, the reducer and the gear train have brought the speed down. Sand and gravel enter the washing tank from the feeding trough, roll over under the drive of the impeller and grind against each other to strip the impurities. Breaking the water vapour layer around the grains is what allows the product to dewater; water added at the same time forms a strong flow that carries the light impurities out through the overflow weir and leaves the cleaned sand to be lifted by the buckets.
Two models are published. The XSD2610 has a 2600 mm wheel in a 3220 mm tub and washes 50 t/h on a 5.5 kW motor; the XSD3016 has a 3000 mm wheel in a 3810 mm tub and washes 80 t/h on 7.5 kW. Both take feed up to 10 mm, and water consumption is quoted as 4-4.5 t/h and 16.3 t/h respectively.
The choice between them is the tonnage and the water you can supply and recover. Washing losses, the final moisture and the silt that has to go to a settling pond all depend on the material, so a sample is worth more than a table when this machine is specified.
